Zero Harm means working in an environment that supports the health and safety of our people, allows us to deliver our business activities in an environmentally sustainable manner and advances the communities in which we operate.

Our Zero Harm culture is built on leading and inspiring, consultation, managing risk, rethinking processes, applying lessons learnt, and adopting and adapting practices that aim to achieve zero work-related injuries and minimise environmental harm.

Zero Harm is embedded in our culture and is fundamental to our future success. Our business is founded on our deeply held value of Zero Harm. Achieving Zero Harm requires strong leadership and relentless commitment from everyone at Skilltech.

Our approach to safety is a market differentiator as it enables us to work in industry sectors that may be inherently hazardous.

We firmly believe that any injury is unacceptable and preventable. In everything we do, the health and safety of our people and communities that we work in is always our top priority.

We conduct our business in a way that is sustainable, taking into account a range of factors, including climate-related risks and opportunities.

Developing and delivering environmentally sustainable solutions for our customers is a priority. While focusing our attention on managing our risks associated with environmental management and in particular, climate change, we also take advantage of the commercial opportunities this presents for our business.

At Skilltech, we provide our employees with specific training, industry-leading PPE and ongoing interactive safety videos to ensure they stay safe in the field.

Dog incidents

Dog safety is one of our highest priorities and we take every precaution to keep our employees safe.

All Skilltech employees undertake induction and annual refresher training for safe entry associated with dogs. Skilltech manages our exposure to dogs in partnership with our customers. The safety of our employees and the community is our first priority.

Slips, trips and falls

Due to the uncontrollable environment in which our employees work, the potential for slips, trips and falls is significant. All employees are provided with non-slip boots and associated PPE and are trained to be situationally aware of their surroundings.

Skilltech provides our employees with interactive safety videos to demonstrate how to avoid common risks and to be proactive as they move through both urban and regional environments.

Aggressive customers

Exposure to aggressive end-customers is an unfortunate reality for many meter readers.

Training in de-escalation skills and personal resilience is provided to all employees, including subcontractors, to minimise the potential for physical or mental injury. We have a range of approaches to minimise risk for both metropolitan and rural properties, including personal beacons, two-person visits and check-in calls.

Employees have access to our Employee Assistance Program, which is provided by Assure Programs. We encourage our employees to use this service in the event of an incident involving an aggressive person.

Downer Great Drivers

Skilltech is proud to take part in the Downer Great Drivers program, which delivers impactful awareness relevant to field and office workers. We ensure that our teams take part in both classroom and online safe driving modules to reduce risk to both themselves and the wider community.
